Economics tuition: topics and skills
Microeconomics and market behaviour
Topics can include scarcity, opportunity cost, demand, supply and market outcomes. Students practise explaining the assumptions behind a model and identifying which factor changes in a given scenario.
Drawing and explaining diagrams
A diagram needs clear labels and an explanation linked to the question. Students distinguish a movement along a curve from a shift and trace the effect on the variables being discussed.
Macroeconomics and government policy
Lessons can explore inflation, unemployment, economic growth and international trade where included in the syllabus. The focus is on explaining mechanisms and recognising that a policy may have different effects on different groups.
Developing a chain of reasoning
Students connect a policy change to spending or production and then to a likely outcome. They check the assumptions needed for each step rather than jumping directly to a conclusion.
Data response and balanced evaluation
Students can practise selecting evidence from a source, interpreting changes and assessing an argument. At more advanced levels, they consider time periods, the size of an effect and the conditions under which a policy may work.
Making a judgement conditional
A strong conclusion explains what the outcome depends on. For example, the same policy can have different effects when confidence, capacity or responsiveness changes.
Micro or macro — which is harder for most students?
There is no single answer for every learner. Microeconomics may expose uncertainty with diagrams, while macroeconomics may require longer chains linking several variables. Reviewing one recent answer from each area is more useful than assuming one is always harder. Tuition can then target the underlying skill as well as the topic.

What to expect from an online Economics lesson
Start with a specific learning goal
Bring a school question, a recent piece of marked work or a topic you cannot yet explain. The tutor can check what you already understand and choose an example that targets the difficulty.
Practise, explain and review
After guided practice, try a question independently and discuss your reasoning. Use the feedback to decide what to revisit before the next session. This keeps extra tuition connected to school learning and makes progress easier to discuss.
